Consultation process
The electoral redistribution will include four stages of community consultation as required by the Electoral Act 1992. During consultation periods, the public and stakeholders will be able to make suggestions, comments and/or objections on the redistribution.
The submission guidelines provide more information about making a submission and how submissions are managed.
The four stages of public consultation are:
In accordance with section 42 of the Electoral Act 1992, the Queensland Redistribution Commission invited suggestions relating to the redistribution, including changes to the electoral boundaries and/or district names.
The invitation was published in the Queensland Government Gazette on 7 July 2025 and advertised in newspapers and online. Suggestions were open for a period of 30 days, closing on Wednesday, 6 August 2025.
The Commission published a discussion paper to provide information for those making submissions.
In accordance with section 43 of the Electoral Act 1992, the Queensland Redistribution Commission published all suggestions relating to the redistribution and invited comments on the suggestions.
The invitation to make a comment was published in the Queensland Government Gazette on 1 September 2025 and advertised in newspapers and online. Comments were open for a period of 21 days, closing on Monday, 22 September 2025.
The Commission published a summary of the suggestions to provide information for those making a comment.
In accordance with section 48 of the Electoral Act 1992, the Queensland Redistribution Commission invited objections against the proposed redistribution.
The invitation was published in the Queensland Government Gazette on 10 March 2026 and was advertised in newspapers and online. Objections against the redistribution were open for a period of 30 days, closing on Thursday, 9 April 2026.
The Commission’s report on the proposed redistribution can be viewed here. The report includes:
- maps showing the boundaries of the 93 proposed electoral districts
- the names and boundary descriptions of all proposed electoral districts, and
- the Commission’s reasons for redistributing the State in the way proposed.
The report is also available for inspection without fee at the office of the Electoral Commission of Queensland at Level 20, 1 Eagle Street, Brisbane and at the electorate offices of State Members of Parliament.
The objections to the proposed redistribution will be published, and comments will be invited.
This stage of consultation will commence after the period for objections on the proposed redistribution in 2026. Comments will be open for a period of 10 days.
The commencement of each of these stages of consultation must be publicly notified through the Queensland Government Gazette and will be promoted through other channels to encourage public participation.
